You can't look regal without this jewellery!

India has a rich jewellery heritage. The more you explore, the more amazed you are. Some of the designs have continued to rule the roost, while the few that are hardly seen today, are still around to tell the story of our glittering past and Sarpech is one of them.

With its roots in Rajasthan, Sarpech is essentially a head jewel that graced the beauty of royals. You may have seen Hrithik Roshan wearing it in the film Jodha Akbar for the role of Akbar. Even Ranveer Singh sported it in Bajirao Mastani for his part as Bajirao. Needless to say, both the men pulled it off with elan. This inspired many men to go in for a regal look for their big day and yes, with that very Sarpech dazzling right on their headgear.

FYI, you can spot similar head ornaments gracing women sculptures carved around 2000 years ago in the caves of Ajanta. However, the Sarpech or Shirpej, meaning an adornment for the head, developed during the medieval age in India, as an ornament worn on turbans. However, its popularity reached its pinnacle after the invasion of Moghuls.

Note that, initially Sarpech was also worn by women along their hairline. But over the time, it has been reduced to a turban jewel. Embellished with uncut diamonds and elongated emerald drops, it is topped by a paisley crest and elaborate Jaipur enamel work covers the reverse of the ornament.

Now I am sure, just like me, you too cannot imagine, a royal look without this princely jewel
