Kudi earrings: then and now!
Kudi earrings is one of the most popular traditional Maharashtrian jewellery. Essentially, it is designed by stringing pearls together into a floral pattern. The string used to hold the pearls together may be made of gold or a nylon thread. While it is an out and out handmade jewel, it amps up the wearer's festive look.
But with time, this traditional jewel underwent a major makeover. Instead of pearls, now it is also designed into gold. The look and feel of the beads are achieved by carving it in gold. In some cases, the pearls are used, just that they are embedded in the gold frame and not typically strung together. Even in this form, Kudi earrings continue to rule the roost.
That's not all. Ever since gemstones have developed a fan-base in India, ruby and emerald-studded designs too have been gracing this segment of jewellery. So, even if you already have one, a new designer pair is always welcome, what say you!
